How to Draft a Petal Sleeve Pattern

Today we’re going to make a petal sleeve pattern. This is a fun little detail that can easily class up a basic shirt, and I think is quite lovely.

Instructions:

Make a copy of your sleeve pattern. This we’re going to mark up. If you need some help drafting a sleeve from scratch, you can see how I did it in this tutorial of my Back Tie Maternity Tunic or my French Striped Dress.

How to Draft a Petal Sleeve Pattern by Sewing Daydreams

Draw a curved line from about the middle of one side of the sleeve where it attaches to the shirt down to the corner of the opposite side. You can modify this depending on the overall shape you are looking for.

Cut along the line you just drew. This is one half of the petal sleeve.

This pattern is all you need to start going. If you want to see it in action, you can see how I used it when I sewed my petal sleeve shirt.

Things to Remember

This pattern is just one half of the petal sleeve. The full sleeve will need two of these cut out from the fabric and they will need to be mirror versions of each other, with one overlaid the other.
