If I look sleepy, it’s because I have a newborn! Zzzzzz……

While I was pregnant, I was given some much needed maternity clothes from a friend. Now that I’m not pregnant anymore, I’m working on some clothes refashion projects and am salvaging what I can from the clothing to be able to keep wearing them.

Among the clothing given was this cute little shirt/tunic thing. Now that I’m not pregnant, I didn’t think I could really pull it off anymore, so I decided to add a little length to make it a fun summer dress.

This is a super easy clothes refashion tutorial. The maternity shirt already had some length to it to be able to cover a growing belly. To refashion it to a dress, I simply sewed lace trim along the bottom hemline. The lace also really elevates the style, adding some much loved elegance.

The skinny:

This clothes refashion is a real quick fix that can be done in a half hour or so. With a newborn, toddler, and full time job, I’ve got literally no time at all. I’ve been dying to sew, and since the only time I get to myself is the precious little time I should be sleeping, I decided to start back again with the simplest project on my to-do list. And it felt really good to complete a project, no matter how small. ♥

To add a bit more substantial length, you want to find some lace trim that has some width to it. I was able to pick up some beautiful and relatively inexpensive lace that was 3″ wide online.

Materials:

  • maternity tunic
  • wide lace trim (I needed 78″ to encircle the entire tunic)
  • matching thread

Now onto my Clothes Refashion

Instructions:

1.  Pin and Sew the lace trim along the bottom of the tunic.

2.  Using a zigzag stitch, sew the ends of the lace together. You don’t want the lace to fray from any subsequent washings so make sure you really sew it closed!

Voila! Your clothes refashion is done. Your maternity tunic is now an adorable summer dress, and it’s oh, so lovely!
