Hello! It’s been some time. I’ve been very, very… well, pregnant. With a toddler in tow, it means I’ve also been very, very tired. On the weekends, I used to steal some time to sew while my son was napping, but lately I’ve found myself napping when he does (which has actually been really wonderful!). But I finally got some time to myself and decided to make myself something comfy and pretty to wear to help get me through the next few months.

Today we will be making a batwing sleeve maternity top. This should be relatively easy as the sleeves and tunic are one piece. The neckline will be nice and loose so it can hang freely from your shoulders. One side of the shirt will have a scoop neckline, and the reverse side will have a v-neckline. With this, I plan on flipping it around after the baby arrives. For now, I will rock the scoop neckline in the front. When I need to nurse, I will will rock the v-neckline in the front.

DIY – The French Striped Dress Tutorial

Summer is well underway and I find myself lacking an essential summer wardrobe dress staple; the French Striped Dress. No one can deny that the French have some serious style and some of their pieces seem to never really go out of style. This French-inspired dress is one of them. When I came up with it, I was thinking of something that a 1960s Brigitte Bardot would have worn. Anyone who follows this blog should know about my love of 60s style. 1960s Fashion Paper dolls, anyone?

So, to remedy the deficiency in my wardrobe, I’m going to make myself a comfortable French Striped Dress to have to wear in the months (and years) ahead. This tutorial will have instructions on how to first make the pattern, and then make the dress from scratch. Read on for my full tutorial!

My DIY Spring Wardrobe from 2017

Spring is almost through here in upstate New York and I am pleased to say that I had a rather productive one! I got to sew up some pieces that I had been thinking about for a really long time and it feels so good to finally be able to wear them. I caught up with the talented photographer, Dave Blenis, recently and got to show some of my newest sewing pieces off. Read through and check out my homemade spring wardrobe pieces from 2017. After wearing them for some time, I have some new insight into them that I’m going to share here. From my Red Riding hoodie to my embroidered Bohemian tunic to my Mad Men inspired skirt… Enjoy!

Also, as a side note, my husband enjoyed this spring wardrobe photo shoot because he got to take a brief vacation from being my Instagram Husband. 🙂

DIY – The Embroidered Tunic Tutorial

Spring is finally here and I want to celebrate with an embroidered tunic. I want a shirt that’s somewhat light, airy, and fun to accompany my mood (I’m not a winter person and am celebrating the warmer, longer days). I’m thinking a boxy shape, 3/4 length sleeves, with a deep v-neck in the front. It will be a longer tunic, with the sides split up to the waist. For the color, I’m thinking off-white with some fancy stitching around the edges. Sound good? Let’s get sewing!
